    Hello Danny, thanks for asking Galco.

    A Traction motor is used for driving the wheels of a locomotive or other rail system equipment like a crane that will have Bridge and Trolley Traction motors driving the wheels for Bridge and Trolley motion.

    Are these motor AC or DC

    They can be both actually, generally the older locomotives use DC series wound motors for very high torque. Later versions of locomotives use 3 Phase induction motors for driving the wheels.
