A Shunt wound motor is usually referring to a DC electric motor that has Field windings mounted in the frame of the motor. There is no direct electrical connection between the motor Armature (rotor) and the Field windings mounted into the frame. By contrast a Series wound motor has a direct connection with it’s Field and the Armature in series and only 2 connections necessary back to the drive. A Shunt wound motor will have 2 pairs of connections A1 & A2, F1 & F2 to make 4 connections back to the drive. Shunt is another word for Parallel in electrical circuits.
